Mozilla Marketplace Won't Support Linux At Launch!

Mozilla Marketplace is all set to take on Apple App Store and Google Play Store! Mozilla's entrant in the online application store arena, the Web store will arrive (moving to a public beta stage) in a few weeks. But according to a bug report filed against Mozilla Marketplace, the software will not include support for Linux at launch. Initially, it will be launched with only Windows and OS X compatibility.
The community behind Firefox is obviously not happy as the OS is the default browser for most Linux distros.

In a mailing list thread, Asa Dotzler, head of Firefox development, Mozilla said that Mozilla did not have enough Linux developers available to add Linux support. "I don't know who those people are," Dotzler said.
However, Mozilla executives are said to be keen to get the platform integration work done. A Linux implementation was definitely planned, according to Brendan Eich, CTO and JavaScript inventor, Mozilla. He added that the bug, now open, is being worked on.
The good news is community contributors are already working on a patch to add compatibility for GNOME desktop.
Following the beta period, Mozilla Marketplace is likely to be made generally available later this year. "We're going to publish the source code for the marketplace, so if anybody wants to set up their own marketplace, they can do that, too," Mozilla's Joe Stagner said.
