UIDAI Launches Micro ATM Device

Here is a micro ATM for daily wagers with Aadhaar, which can be used to withdraw money near their doors through a core banking system. The device functions through any SIM and wherever there is a mobile tower.

A micro ATM device has been launched by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to enable beneficiaries like MG-NREGA (Mahatma Gandhi-National Rural Employment Guarantee Act) workers with Aadhaar to withdraw money near their doors through a core banking system. Other beneficiaries under old-age pension and scholarship could also benefit from the device.
With the device, the beneficiary can get the withdrawn amount from the business correspondent on the spot. The process is different from carrying money unlike the regular bank ATMs, according to a PTI report.

R S Sharma, director general, UIDAI explains, "The beneficiary has to put his finger and Aadhaar number into the micro ATM wireless device and get the money within 8 to 9 seconds from a business correspondent after verification about the beneficiary having that much amount deposited in the bank account shown through a receipt by the device."
"The (about a foot-long) device functions through any SIM and wherever there is a mobile tower. The device will be with a bank-appointed business correspondent," he adds.
