Microsoft has yet again reminded its users that it will stop supporting Windows XP and Office 2003 by 8 April 2014. This means that existing users of the OS must shift to the latest versions of the OS and Office, i.e Windows 7 and Office 2010.
The company revealed the news on its official blog post, mentioning that they will stop rolling out updates after the said date. By updates, they mean there will be no security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options or online technical content updates.
The post also states: "Technology continues to evolve and so do people’s needs and expectations. Modern users demand technologies that fit their personal workstyle and allow them to stay productive anywhere anytime, while businesses have an ever increasing need to protect data and ensure security, compliance and manageability. It is in a company’s – and its employees’ – best interest to take advantage of the modern Windows and Office software that is designed with these needs in mind."
Next in line to become obsolete is Windows Vista. The platform was anyways not too successful and the secondary support will also end by 2017. Hence, before the company finally disowns both the platforms, it is advisable to start making the shift.
