HCL Infosystems launched two new tablets called HCL ME U1 and HCL MyEdu Tab at an event organised in New Delhi today.

HCL ME U1 is a sleek white-coloured tablet which runs Google's latest Android Ice Cream Sandwich, precisely Android 4.0.3. The device has been launched at an attractive price of Rs 7,999. The 17.8-cm (7-inch) tablet runs on 1 Ghz processor and comes with 800X480 capacitive screen. It has 512 MB RAM DDR3 memory with 4GB internal storage space. The storage space is expandable up to 32 GB. The new tablet from HCL has a full USB, a mini USB port and Micro SD card slot. It provides 3G data connectivity through USB modem and can also be connected through WiFi.

On the other hand, HCL MyEduTab has been launched to enhance the learning experience of kids of modern India. Based on the same hardware as that of HCL ME U1, this tablet caters to the learning needs of the students with its content. It has NCERT mapped content from Class KG to Class 12. The content includes 2D-3D concept explanations and animation stories, rhymes, puzzles, activities and animation key revision points. This tablet will be offered in two variants- a higher education version and a K12 version. The higher education version is priced at Rs. 9,999, while the K12 version of the tablet is priced at Rs 11,499. This includes the price of the device, content and a memory card too.

Speaking to EFYTimes.com, Gautam Advani, EVP and head--mobility, HCL Infosystems said, "If you look at the figures, Indian tablet market was 350,000 in 2011. This year it is likely to cross 1 million mark and for next year we are projecting a double growth. 2 million tablets will be sold in India in 2013. That is an exciting business opportunity for tablet makers like us to bring in new products. Our new offing is already a winner as no tablet of this quality running ICS is available at Sub 8 K price."

It is worth mentioning here that HCL had launched HCL ME Tab X1 in October last year. HCL occupies 15 per cent market in India, claimed Advani. Talking about the new My EduTab, Anand Ekambaram, senior vice president, HCL Infosystems Ltd and HCL Learning said, "Tablet devices are set to be the future of Indian education system. This tablet comes with parental lock option where parents can decide what content should their kids get exposed to. Kids can access both online and offline content with MyEduTab. It comes with features like online encyclopedia, online educational video and My Studio which has live illustrations and videos which help kids in studying better."

The tablet devices which are made in China, will be sold in the Indian market from April. HCL also has plans to export the tablet devices to other nations as well.
